How do I join NLI?
If you are interested in joining Nehemiah Leadership Initiative for the 2023-2024 year, please complete the application by clicking/tapping here. Following receipt of your application, we will talk with you, check references and determine which program may be the best fit for you. You will also interview with the director of the specific program you are interested in working with. If you have questions, please reach out to Michael at michael@odmdenver.org.

What are the NLI program expectations?
Along with their fellowship placement, NLI Fellows will be expected to participate in classroom discussion time, homework and assigned reading, mentorship, chapel attendance, participating in street outreach and evangelism, spiritual discipline and self-care practices, and a practicum project in the last months of program.

Where will I live?
We require that NLI Fellows live in Open Door housing. Housing is provided at no cost. Fellows are responsible for covering the costs of food, travel, toiletries, recreational activities, etc. A stipend is included to cover some of these expenses.

When does the program start?
The next NLI Fellowship will begin September 1, 2023 and go through April 26, 2024, with a week off for Christmas break.

How many hours per week will I be working?
NLI Fellows will be expected to work 30 hours a week in their ministry placements, with an additional 10-15 hours of fellowship course work, groups and community time.

Can I take a vacation or go away for the weekend?
Yes, as long as the timing works with your particular ministry. All vacations much be approved ahead of time by your direct supervisor and communicated to the NLI Director.

Can I receive school credit for my fellowship?
In many cases, you can receive credit for your fellowship. The NLI Director can act as a field supervisor on your behalf. We will do our best to work with the requirements of your school to make this possible. Please let us know how we can best help you.    

 

Can I work another job while participating in NLI?
We ask that NLI fellows do not work another job because they are required to work a 40-hour work week.

Can I take a class during my fellowship?
The Fellow will need to be careful not to be too busy with side responsibilities. It may work out, but it must be approved with the NLI Director first. 

Will I get paid?
NLI Fellows are paid a $400/month stipend with option to support raise additional income.

What expenses will I need to pay for?
Typically, fellows will need to pay for their own food, gas, bus passes, car insurance, entertainment, etc. Cars are not required, but it may be expected that interns use their cars for ministry purposes if they have one. In those cases, fellows will be reimbursed for gas.

How does housing work?
NLI fellows are required to live on the ODM block. The cost is free during the duration of your fellowship. You will share a bedroom with other fellows. You will have limited personal space, so please pack light!

Will I need my own transportation?
As you arrive and depart, you will need to arrange transportation to and from Denver. If flying, you can fly in and out of Denver International Airport (DIA). ODM staff will do their best to provide transportation from DIA if needed. Public transportation, Uber/Lyft and other forms of transportation are available. You are also allowed to bring your own vehicle.
